History

In 1987 the first Eurofins company was founded with 4 employees to market the SNIF-NMR™ technology, a patented analytical method used to verify the origin and purity of several types of food and beverages and identify sophisticated fraud not detectable by other methods.

Building on this unique technology, the company grew over the years into  a wide network that became the largest global provider of analytical services with:

• ca. 62,000 staff across a network of independent companies in more than 1,000 companies and 62 countries and operating over 900 laboratories.
• a portfolio of over 200,000 analytical methods
• more than 1 million m²of laboratories
• Over €6.7 billion in annualised revenues in 2021
• more than 450 million tests performed each year to evaluate the safety, identity, composition, authenticity, origin, traceability, and purity of biological substances and products, as well as providing innovative clinical diagnostic testing services.

In 2013 a number of acquisitions allowed key Australian laboratories to join the Eurofins network.

In 2018 Eurofins Food Testing Australia Pty Ltd was founded in Melbourne to offer a comprehensive range of analytical methods to the Australian Food industry, for Food, Beverage, Dairy and Feed, in microbiology, nutritional chemistry, vitamins and contaminants, out of a purpose-built 8,000 m² state-of-the-art facility.

It was also the first Australian laboratory to offer a complete range of GB methods for dairy powders for the export of products to China.

In 2020 the acquisition of ARL | ProMicro and ARL | EcoDiagnostics in Perth brought in a new wealth of expertise and industry knowledge to serve the Western Australia Food market and beyond, with a wide range of tests dedicated to food in microbiology, molecular biology and chemistry. Eurofins Promicro Pty Ltd is the leading Microbiology laboratory in WA and operates from a new, purpose-built Microbiological and Chemistry laboratory in Welshpool.

In 2021 a Eurofins company acquired the business of Biotech Laboratories in Brisbane, a fantastic addition to the network of Eurofins Food Microbiology laboratories across Australia. Eurofins Biotech Laboratory is a NATA accredited biological testing laboratory offering a wide range of microbiological analyses of food, water, air, cosmetics, surfaces and environmental samples for the detection of pathogenic, spoilage and indicator organisms.

Biotech Laboratories has been providing services to the food, water and environmental industries since 1990.

In 2021 Eurofins Food Testing Australia Pty Ltd expanded its food microbiology offering in Sydney, at the 1500 m2 Eurofins Silverwater site which is a well-established PC2 Microbiology facility with about 60 staff. Prior to this expansion, the Eurofins Silverwater site was specialized in microbiology and molecular biology testing for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and water applications, holding NATA and TGA accreditations.
